Program Timeline
Inclusive Education
This module explores exclusion in South Africa and the evolution of inclusion policies locally and globally. It highlights key principles like ubuntu and the Bill of Rights while presenting academic theories on inclusive education. The unit concludes by defining the role of an inclusive teacher.
Learner Diversity
This unit examines learner diversity, intersectionality, and equity in education, considering various social and personal factors. It emphasizes how these concepts support quality teaching and inclusive learning. A special focus is on language and cultural diversity in South African classrooms to promote access, acceptance, and participation.
Inclusive School Communities
Building on previous units, this unit explores inclusive school communities, emphasizing the roles of learners and teachers. It examines the Department of Basic Education’s CSTL framework and the SIAS policy for accessing support. Collaboration among stakeholders is highlighted as essential for inclusive education.
Inclusive Teaching and Learning
This unit emphasizes that all learners can learn and that learning difficulties are challenges for teaching, not learner deficiencies. It promotes transformative views of ability to enhance inclusive education. The focus is on applying and reflecting on inclusive teaching strategies in various school contexts.
